When I use the shortcut enter with O, It takes me to the language configure and settings. What am I doing wrong?
Update: I was able to go to the search for webpage and typed google.com. It is telling me that this site canât be reached.
With the update that release today, did anyone else have to manually restart their unit once it said successfully updated?
Unfortunately, I needed to do a factory reset in order to update. I havenât been able to connect to wifi since last May. Really, sadly, I lost all of the download files that had come on the unit when I did the training in March. Is there any way to get those files again? Clearly, they are not on the device, but is there a place I can download them from? Thanks!
Hello. We added a new samples folder from within the system storage where you can find many of the graphics etc. With regard to the training files that were found on the thumb drives, I am sure one of our awesome outreach team members can get those your way if needed. But for now, if you open up Tactile Viewer, you can find all the sample tactile graphics in the âSample,â folder on the device.
I hope this helps.
Greg
These samples are exactly what I was looking for. I still have the thumb drive files.
Thank you!
Shelley
Hello all,
I have been impressed with this last update. I was using the new Internet browser, and it was going very smooth. However, after closing all the tabs, I noticed it got stuck once and the braille was not what the speech was saying. The way I was able to fix that was going in to the main menu with space M, and then closing again and the speech output in the braille was matching. Also, I am sure everybody has figured this out. I just wanted to put out there that I was able to watch a YouTube video on this. There was no Video output, but I was able to hear the audio. When I first went into the link from the search, it said, unable to play media. However, if I navigated down to the play button and press, enter, it played the audio. I hope everybody has been enjoying this latest update as much as I have.
I also really like the latest update to the Monarch. I have enjoyed showing one of my students how to use the Monarch and the Internet browser to do basic research. This has been perfect for her since she is having quite a bit of difficulty using her Mac with VoiceOver. When the update first came out, I was not able to move around the page by elements such as headings, buttons, links, etc. However, something seems to have resolved since I can do this now without any issues. I am not sure what was going on in the beginning that prevented that from working. My student is learning how to quickly move through webpages by links and headings.
Hi! Does anyone use a list of prerequisite skills or criteria that a student should demonstrate before considering them for a Monarch? Maybe looking at their braille reading & writing skills, exposure to tactile graphics, age, curriculum needs, etc.?
I know of a 2nd grader that my agency provides services to, whose Mom is inquiring about if/when a Monarch can be available to them.
Hello,
I know before recommending any braille display. We are required to make sure they can read braille between 20 and 30 words per minute. More important than that we make sure they have the comprehension of what they read. As for writing, we make sure they can Right, but we have no specific words per minute. Now, with the tactile graphic portion of it, I donât know if Iâd be hung up on that part. Part of the whole reason and beauty of the monarchs is that students will get exposure to tactile graphics that they wouldnât have before.
My Braille Editor stopped reading whole words aloud, it also stopped converting the simbraille on the visual display monitor to print. It will read aloud what letter has been typed but not the whole word at the end like it used to do. This is very frustrating to one of my students. Iâve gone through the settings several times and canât seem to find what has happened nor how to fix it. I ran the most recent update hoping that would resolve the matter. What am I missing?
Hi everyone!
Is there a shortcut to enter the date in word processor? On my studentâs Braille Sense6, they enter âenter + wâ
Hi Macala, thank you for bringing up the words per minute factor. I think you are so right that with the Monarch it will help students build visual concepts who may not have had them before. I say this because I have a higher education student who had no concept of what a paint brush or butterfly looked like before exploring the Monarch. As this generation of students gets the Monarch put in their hands the likely hood of higher education institutions getting braille reading students who do not have the vital skills to read tactile graphics will diminish.
In Keyword, sometimes the space+c will work for having the Nemeth math content read and sometimes it wonât. Does anyone know why?
Hi Regina!
The Braille Editor is a braille-only app - it wonât read aloud correctly or appear in print on the visual monitor. KeyWord will read correctly and appear in print on the visual monitor - is that app still working for you?
Jenny
Hi Krystal!
Are you noticing that there are specific circumstances where you are typing in math in KeyWord and it is working for you, and others where it is not?
Jenny
Itâs crashing numerous times when in math mode. My students are completing Algebra problemsâso numerous lines of math content. Is there a rule somewhere that specifies how many lines of math it will
Take at a time?
As for reading the math content, no when it reads is sporadic. All of the equations have been put into the file with the equation editor ⌠so I cannot find a pattern of why it will not read at times.
There isnât exactly a rule but the multi-line problem solving in KeyWord is a new feature and the Monarch is still being improved. If youâre finding that it crashes after a few lines, and ending KeyWord in Recent Apps or restarting the Monarch is not giving you a better result, it might be a good idea for now to limit the number of lines entered all at once to three and then to use the screen to check work and enter the next group. I will inquire further for you.
I am just starting to introduce the Monarch to preschool aged student who is just beginning on her braille journey. The student has some vision and very little experience with using her hands to gain information tactually. She is fascinated by the Monarch and has been able to transfer the knowledge of the key layout from a braille writer to the Monarch. Any suggestions for how to introduce tactile graphics?
