Monarch Announcements and Updates

We are excited to share that Jenny Wheeler has updated the Monarch Pilot Handouts folder with valuable new resources. These resources, which focus on creating tactile graphics, are now available in the Cheat Sheet and Troubleshooting folder.

Access the updated folder through this link: Monarch Pilot Handouts.

Please keep an eye on this discussion board for ongoing updates. We expect further enhancements in May.

Reminder for Follow-up Work:
As a gentle reminder, your follow-up work is crucial for maintaining possession of the Monarch. The 05 Follow-up Activities and Resources folder contains all the necessary links and information, including the photo release.

Bookshare Instructions Update:
We’ve also included instructions on how to set up a Bookshare organizational demo account. A demo account only allows for downloading open-source books. Remember, you will need to log in as a student to access books that are not open-source.

Thank you again to Jenny for her contributions, and thank you all for your ongoing engagement. I hope that you are having a blast “Monarching!”

When I try to access this folder, it says I do not have an account to access. Am I doing something wrong?

I am having the same problem.

I updated the link - will you please try again and let me know how it goes.

Got it. Thanks!

I am getting the Access Denied message for the link as well.

Same issue here. Access Denied. Used my other login and same response.

I was thinking this would tell us the updates that happened last Thursday. Where is that list/info?

Here is a link to the release notes for the latest update.

The APH Outreach team is happy to share with you links to newly created Monarch training resources.

We have short demonstration videos available and a new 2 hour course in the Hive called Mastering the Monarch.

Hello Monarch Masters

I hope you all are having a fantastic start to your school year. Today is the big day here at APH and HumanWare. The Monarchs are officially launched and shipping to all who have preordered, and we are beyond excited to see how they begin being integrated into classrooms around the world.

We have already begun seeing the incredibly creative ways you all have been starting to explore the Monarch with your students over the past 8 or so months and today you will see that your Monarch has a major system update. If you have your Monarch connected to WIFI, the 1.1 update will automatically be pushed to your device. This update has many new features, fixes and even new apps. The majority of which have come directly from yours and your student’s feedback. Below I will put a high-level list of the release notes for version 1.1 but needless to say there is a lot here.

We will continue putting new resources here on the Hive along with our Monarch webpage and of course YouTube. The journey is only beginning and please don’t hesitate to reach out if there are specific resources or support materials that would be particularly effective for you in the classroom.

We cannot thank you enough for joining us early on this journey. You have all embraced the “Building the plane while we’re flying it,” mentality, and without your feedback, patience and creative suggestions, the Monarch would absolutely not be where it is today.

Have a truly awesome school year and Happy Monarch Day!

Monarch V1.1 Release Notes

Inline math editing in Keyword to allow users to insert and edit math equations while viewing the parts of the document around it.

  • Ability to enter multiple lines of math equations by pressing Enter while editing.
  • Added support for many new math symbols in Nemeth and UEB.
  • Added the code switch indicators when using Nemeth code.

Added support for offline system updates by USB. Contact APH for assistance with this process if needed.

Improved point and click detection throughout the system.

Added the internet web browser as a Beta app. Users are encouraged to use the web browser with speech at launch when possible.

Added the global shortcut Enter + F, called “focus cursor to top line”. In lists it’ll bring the item with focus to the top of the braille display and in Edit boxes it will bring the line containing the cursor to the top of the braille display, solving the challenge of finding one’s cursor.

You can now display graph coordinates in braille in KeyMath.

Tactile Viewer:

Regrouped the 9 direction shortcuts in the context menu under a dedicated submenu.

Fixed issues with increase threshold and decrease threshold commands. Renamed them to “show more details” and “show less details” to make their function more obvious. Changed their shortcuts to space 1-3 and space 4-6 for simplicity.

Added Monarch Chess and Monarch Startup game to all apps menu

VictorReader:

Users can now select their prefered file type in bookshare. Default is ePub but this can be changed to Daisy text for simplicity.

  • Victor now pans correctly between pages with no loss of speed or location.
  • Many other bug fixes in Victor.

Added User Guide app.
