The USB drive on my Monarch does not seem to be working. I have tested it on my computer and it does work there. I’ve drive a different drive with no luck. Anyone have any tips? I tried restarting with the thumb drive plugged in. I’m navigating to File Manager, then SPACE+D and “Storage” is the only option. Anyone have anything else to try, or should I just submit a support ticket? Thanks!
Wow. Thanks for that. My IT person let me type in the password using braille. But this is great to know because it did not connect and it will be helpful for them to have more control.
The resources were so helpful! I was also struggling with creating the graphics. They would look great as a PDF but then on the Monarch they either wouldn’t show up or look very different. I have really been working hard to create different graphics and it has certainly been trial and error. : ) The resources made it much easier. I also found that using the “icons” in PowerPoint is helpful but you are definitely limited and being able to create your own in Word or other program is better.

I have ideas for something I want to create for use on the Monarch, but I am not sure how to make my ideas work as it probably will be more like an app and I am not sure how to that but would love to learn how to create it.
Idea 1 - an interactive book for young braille readers that involves tactile graphics and a sentence. They would then have to point and click on the graphic that matches the sentence. Such as Positional concepts.
Idea 2 - braille music game. There is a line or two of braille music and the reader has to point and click on the named music note after reading the line that will take them to the next page.
I’d love to figure out how to make these activities.
I love these, I can’t say too much about them, but both 1 and 2 are being worked on in the very early stages. As our development team switches from Startup and Chess, expect more news in the Fall about these ideas. Keep them coming!
I was inserting math equations into keyword and when I did the visual preview the Y variable always showed up as V. I did it multiple times, updated the Monarch and tried again and it always had this error.
Should you be able to copy a math problem from KeyWord into KeyMath?
I have copied the equation y=1/2 (x-2)^2-5{-1<x<3} (it has math form in KeyWord which doesn’t paste well into this post) and it pastes into KeyMath as y=12x-22-5-1<x<3.
I love your thoughts about this topic and its applications to braille music and tactile graphics! I am very interested to know if you have any further ideas or success with making them realities for your students. I wonder if Google Docs or another online sharing site would make it possible to create links for moving from one page to the next.
I love these as well! I have long thought that the Monarch will be great for us musicians. The possibilities are endless! Keep soaring!
As we are now able to access a browser, are there any plans to incorporate a screen reader navigational function or is it already in place?
Hey y’all,
I’m just making a PowerPoint presentation and I was looking to see that my monarch has 160 GB. Online I couldn’t find if there was any specifications on what the hard drive is going to be. Does anybody know if this is going to be the, same for all monarchs?
Any tips on getting the sim braille in your tactile graphic to show up correctly? I am creating tactile graphics for each element of the periodic table. I would like to include some accompanying info with each of the graphics (ie mass, number, solid state, group, etc) but it is not displaying correctly. I am using Word with Tiger to transcribe print into Simbraille font (it transcribes to Braille36), but the braille is not displaying correctly on the monarch - I think it has to do with how the blank braille dots within a cell are visually represented as an unfilled dot, and the Monarch is confusing it for a full braille dot in the cell. Is there any way to change how this appears visually?

Also, I am having difficulty with the USB drive connection - it keeps connecting and disconnecting when it is plugged in. Any pointers?
Hi Vanessa! What do you think about using Perky Duck for copying and pasting the braille text? It seems to work well for inserting into Word and then changing the font to Braille29 or Braille36. Duxbury or Braille 2000 will also work, but Perky Duck of course is free if you have the Tiger suite rather than one of those programs.
Hi again Vanessa! Your USB connection might be resolved with a different USB drive and a restart of the Monarch. If you haven’t already tried this, will you take a look and let us know if it helps? If you have, will you let us know that as well?
Hi,
I am having difficulty connecting the Monarch to my Windows laptop. I was able to connect once successfully. Any tips on how to connect? Thank you!
Good afternoon Wanda,
There were some changes with the last update that affect the visual display. @jmartin or @gstilson could you help out Wanda.
Thank you,
Stephanie
Good afternoon Stephanie,
Thank you!
Good Afternoon,
I am a little behind on updates on the Monarch. Lots of changes and catching up at our school. Anyway. I tried logging my student into google. We use google throughout our school including Google Classroom. I was able to log in, but then the Monarch did an update. I now have Ecosia. I cannot seem to get to Google through this. What am I a missing? I need to get my student going on the Monarch.
Thank you.
Using the new internet browser, which is still in beta I want to mention, open it from the main menu and press the shortcut enter with O to open a new webpage. From there you can type your URL and press enter. Note you no longer have to use computer braille in these fields. You can use the context menu button by holding the front square button to see all the new web browser shortcuts. Remember that the web browser you all had been using was simply a place holder as it was not going to provide all the braille support we needed in the long run.
