Hello! We are trying to use Key Math for inverse function of a parabola. We solved for the inverse and then brailled it in Key Math but it just keeps giving an error code. When we use space+i, it states too many variables. Try defining ‘pm’ I tried organizing it a little differently thinking I messed up on the grade 1 indicators but have the same error. Can someone please check it out to see if you find any errors please?
I just tried one more thing. It will accept the equation if I take out the plus or minus symbol. It gives me half of the parabola. Then I can add a negative to see the other half but it won’t work with the plus or minus symbol.
Happy new year, Tabitha!
KeyMath is basically a Monarch link to Desmos. When you type your equations in the KeyMath app, you are essentially entering them on the Desmos online page, which has difficulty with the plus/minus sign. It gets turned into “pm” there, which is why you are getting the message to “try defining ‘pm’,” but because Desmos doesn’t recognize plus/minus, neither does the Monarch. It thinks you’re trying to add extra letters (p and m) to the 2-variable equation.
Your math looks good. Along with your equation that has no plus/minus sign, just add a second equation that has the minus sign before the two grade 1 indicators. Then press Space + G to graph them together on the same graph, and you should get both curves together in one parabola.
This was a fun question. Thanks for asking.
Jenny
Thanks so much for your reply. I for the life of me couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong and didn’t even think to associate pm with plus minus. My student is really enjoying using the Monarch in his Algebra 2 class. It is so much easier to braille out the steps and make changes in the braille editor and also being able to check his work using Key math!
