Guidance for Creating Good Monarch Graphics

Hi, all. I am pleased to distribute three new guidance documents to help teachers, transcribers, parents, and others create good graphics for use on the Monarch.

  1. Best Practices and Standards for Creating Monarch Tactile Graphics, A Handbook for Educators and Transcribers
  2. Best Practices and Standards for Creating Monarch Tactile Graphics, Reference Document
  3. Draw with Word for the Monarch

These resources were developed by a team of tactile graphics experts at APH.
We welcome your feedback!

Our goal is for these documents to be “living documents” that are revised as we move forward, so we welcome your feedback or questions!

Thanks!

Nicole

These are incredible resources! I am especially loving Draw with Word.

I’ve linked the original textures document here in .CDR format for CorelDraw users. Just copy the desired texture into your document and create an object style from the fill. Enjoy!

Thank you for these documents. This is will be so helpful.

Hi, Nicole! I realize these guidance documents were posted here a year ago now, but I am participating in the MPP currently with my student and of course aiming ot learn all tips and tricks. However, when I click on these file links Ithat you shared here, I end up with an error of “403 Forbidden” notification. Are they no longer available as resources?

Thank you for your time and direction, Tonya

Hi, Tonya. Thanks for reaching out. Could you let me know where you are finding broken links?

I just tested the links for the three docs from our TGIL resources page in Louis, and I am not finding any issue:

https://louis.aph.org/documents/Best-Practices-Monarch-Educators-Transcribers.docx
https://louis.aph.org/documents/Best-Practices-Monarch-Reference.docx
https://louis.aph.org/documents/Draw-with-Word-Monarch.docx

If there are issues with the links found on another page, I’d like to be sure that gets addressed. It’s also possible that with the major APH website server migration that APH underwent a month or so ago, if the links above aren’t working, you may need to clear your browser cache.

Just let me know if you continue to have an issue. Thanks!
Nicole

Good morning, Nicole! Thank you so much for sharing these documents! I am so grateful for your quick response and sharing knowledge.

On the original post of this thread from October 2024 and the resource links you shared above give me the error message. Here is a screenshot of the error message I am getting (below). I hope that maybe this will be helpful? Your response to my message with the new links has been successful but I still receive the error when clicking on the other links from Oct 2024.

Again, thank you so very much! Tonya

Thanks, Tonya! I figured it out – when APH migrated websites to a new a server several weeks back, the original links were broken. I have replaced the links in the original post above so that if folks see last year’s post going forward, the links will work again. Thanks so much for letting me know and for the additional clarification. Much appreciated!

Nicole
