SAAVI: Nonvisual Skills Instructor - Home Management

Saavi Services for the Blind is seeking a mission‑driven Nonvisual Skills Instructor – Home Management to join our Phoenix Campus. This role supports blind students as they build confidence, independence, and strong nonvisual skills for managing their daily lives using Structured Discovery principles.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on teaching, modeling nonvisual problem‑solving, and helping students learn that everyday challenges have workable solutions.

Position Overview

The Nonvisual Skills Instructor – Home Management provides individual and multi-student instruction in cooking, cleaning, budgeting, organization, and home management skills. Instruction takes place in the training center, student apartments, and community settings, emphasizing independence, skill transfer, and high expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach nonvisual home management and independent living skills
  • Reinforce cane travel, braille, technology, and problem‑solving throughout instruction
  • Provide instruction in kitchens, homes, and community environments
  • Support student confidence, independence, and age‑appropriate social development
  • Maintain training documentation and communicate regularly with the instructional team
  • Serve as a role model demonstrating strong nonvisual skills and positive blindness philosophy

Qualifications

  • Certification (NBPCB or ACVREP), related degree, or 3+ years Structured Discovery experience
  • Demonstrated positive philosophy of blindness
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to complete SAAVI blindness immersion training

Compensation & Professional Development

Salary Range: $45,000–$64,000 annually (based on experience)
