School Psychologist
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking a School Psychologist. This individual will conduct diagnostic evaluations, perform comprehensive psychological assessments, and provide written reports, to include scoring, to assist in the determination of eligibility for services. Attends IEPs to present diagnostic or psychological testing findings. Performs psychological/mental health consultation, as may be required. Psychologist will provide ongoing counseling services. Minimal state travel may be required. Postgraduate degree in school psychology, and valid NM Public Education Department license required. Previous experience with visual impairments, special education and multiply impaired preferred. Will be required to become Braille proficient. This is a 9-month position at the NMSBVI campus in Alamogordo. Position available for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications accepted until filled.
Life Skills Assistant
Provides individual and group guidance, relative to developing independent life skills and post-graduation preparedness for blind, visually – or multiple impaired students. Provides intense instruction in all areas of daily living, career readiness and Expanded Core Curriculum. Acts as a job coach to secure employment and provides job coaching for students on-campus and in community. High School diploma/GED and NM Public Education Department Level 3 licensure will be required. Background/experience in working with visual/multiply-impaired students, job coaching and/or woodworking skills are preferred. Will be required to become Braille proficient. May be required to obtain certification in supported employment. Full-time, 9-month position for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications accepted until filled.
Music Teacher or Therapist
The Music Teacher will plan and implement musical instruction for students who are visually impaired, including those with multiple impairments. Goals include helping a diverse population of students to learn music appreciation, vocal performance and/or learning to play musical instruments. Teacher is responsible for providing musical experiences that enhance academic learning, coordinating performances and maintaining classroom instruments. The Music Therapist will be responsible for implementing therapeutic music interventions to address physical, psychological, cognitive, behavior and/or social functioning needs to students. Must have current or be eligible for a New Mexico PED Licensure in music; Special Education and background/experience in teaching students with visual impairments preferred. Will be required to become Braille proficient. Full-time, 9-month certified position for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications accepted until filled.
