I have a friend who told me an update is out for the monarch. Sure enough, it’s right here installed and ready for me to explore! Here’s a few new items for you.
- Braille Terminal
- Tap on the display instead of point and click
- When in Ecosia, press backspace with O to open the image in Tactile Viewer
- Wing It is out
I have the alpha of NVDA installed. Multiline braille is supported in it. No joy with JAWS yet.
Enough reading this! Go get it!

Were you able to find the Wing It app on the IOS app store? I can’t seem to find it! I love the new touch mode on the display, so much faster than point and click!
Good afternoon,
You can find wing-it in the apple store here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/monarch-wing-it/id6740585968?platform=iphone
Have fun with the new app!

I was just abouto post the link for you, but Stephanie got to it before I did. I was playing with my new toy!
So far, I love it! I am having a difficult time in finding images to test out. I did see one on Macrumors of a guy’s screenshot. I could actually read the print letters for iOS. Very nifty indeed!
Now to see what I can find for radars and such.
The bug I noticed in Victor Reader whereby the content at the start of each “page” of the book appeared partway down the display rather than at the top, now seems to be fixed as of version 1.3. This issue only applies, as far as I know, to books that have page breaks and page numbers included. In my case, it’s an EPUB book which contains the relevant markup.
I haven’t yet succeeded in using Braille Terminal with NVDA. I suspect a hardware problem on the 2017-model laptop that I am using, which has a single USB-C port. The Monarch charges over this port, but it doesn’t display the option in the Connected Devices menu to enable file transfer over USB, and in Braille Terminal mode, the laptop doesn’t list the Monarch as an attached USB device - the same result under Windows and Linux.
However, if I connect the Monarch to my much newer MacBook Pro, I am offered the option under Connected Devices to enable file transfer. (I’m using the same USB-C cable in both cases - the one supplied with the Monarch.)
I can’t yet test Braille Terminal on the Mac - there has been no announcement from Apple so far. I plan to install public betas of macOS 26, so maybe…
Another option would be to run Windows for ARM virtualized in macOS, but I don’t know how likely it is to work or whether the USB port can be passed through to the guest operating system reliably. Yet another option would be to wait for Bluetooth support in Braille Terminal mode. Yet a further option would be to purchase my next laptop for running Linux and Windows, although I had hoped to avoid this for a while longer, especially as the laptop industry is in a transition toward ARM processors and better support for running machine learning models on device. Next year’s hardware, or that of the year after, will inevitably be better. I’m very good at holding back on purchases until there’s a strong reason to proceed.
So I’m not sure what I’ll do, but I look forward to reading about others’ findings in this forum.
