Course Description:
Creating accessible digital materials involves thinking beyond what visually appears on the page or slide. This course builds skills in applying accessibility best practices to everyday documents and presentations. Participants will learn how intentional design ensures digital materials are usable for everyone, including individuals who are blind or have low vision.
This course uses Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to demonstrate how to create accessible digital materials that support usability. While demonstrations focus on Microsoft 365 applications, the accessibility practices can be applied beyond a single program or platform.
ACVREP Credit: 2.5 Hours
Objectives:
- Explain key principles of accessible digital communication that apply across multiple tools and platforms.
- Distinguish between visual formatting and meaningful structure in digital materials.
- Identify common accessibility barriers in documents and presentations.
- Apply accessibility principles to visuals, structure, layout, links, language, and media.
- Compare accessibility workflows in the web and desktop versions of Microsoft 365.
- Evaluate digital materials for accessibility.
- Export digital materials using methods that preserve accessibility.
