Hi all,
I am having some difficulties helping my student graph on his Monarch. We are currently running into a few issues.
- Is there a way to more efficiently change the boundaries of the graph? I know the command to adjust the boundaries is “Space + Dots 3, 5” but is there a command to simply center the graph on the screen?
- How would I go about graphing trigonometric and logarithmic functions in KeyMath? Every time we’ve tried, we get an error message that the function cannot be graphed.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Trigonometric functions worked for me when I last experimented with graphing. Are you including a space between the function name and the variable (e.g., “sin x”)? I found this to be necessary for correct results. I can’t test again at the moment, as the Monarch on loan to me is having an issue requiring it to be returned for inspection.
Good afternoon,
Thank you for reaching out to American Printing House regarding the Monarch.
We are glad you are interested in using Key-Math.
Currently, there are no other ways to adjust the graph boundaries at this time.
Key-Math can graph standard equations. At this time, Key-Math can not graph trigonometric or logarithmic functions.
I would be happy to submit this as feedback for a future version of the Monarch software.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out by calling our Monarch support line at (833)447-8444 or email us at monarchsupport@aph.org and we would be happy to assist you.

Hey @Jason_White - I am so sorry to hear that your Monarch is having an issue requiring inspection. I have reached out to our MonarchSupport team to follow up on your case. A member of the RISE team will be reaching out to you via email soon!

Thank you. It arrived at the HumanWare destination on Monday morning, so I hope it’s now literally in the hands of a hardware specialist who we hope can reproduce the issue, identify the cause, and take appropriate steps. I’ve been extremely careful with this Monarch, although the problem seems to ahve been present to some dgree from the beginning. In any case, I asked the support department for details of the cause and, in particular, whether there’s anything I could do or could have done to avoid such issues. The problem, essentially, is that it often isn’t responding to braille key presses (either not at all, or not detecting all of the keys that were pressed).
On the positive side (for others reading this), it was noted in an interview with Jonathan Mosen of the NFB for one of his podcasts that of approximately 1400 Monarchs out in the field, only two had so far encountered braille cell issues - both single-cell problems. It was pointed out that this was a substantially higher reliability rate than conventional piezoelectric braille display cell technology, which fails more frequently. So the MOnarch is performing very well in the reliability of the tactile display, and that’s very encouraging from my perspective. I’ve experienced issues with piezoelectric braille cells in the past - sometimes just a need for cleaning, and sometimes worse, despite the care that I take with them.
