The early devices, of which you have one, did have a rare issue of not coming back to life if left dead for long periods of time. Leave it plugged in for 3-4 hours and then try the 20 second reset. If this doesn’t work, we can look at swapping your device out.
I had this happen to me. The awful sound and the blinking red light. Mine was not able to charge and it had to be replaced. I do hope that isn’t the case with yours. The replacement device is functioning beautifully–charging and all!
Good luck.
It is nice to hear from you. Thank you for your questions!
Is the braille showing poorly in the Word file, or on the Monarch, or both?
Will you either attach your graphic files here in the discussion board or send them to me at jwheeler@aph.org? I would like to take a look - both the Word and PDF files would be awesome if you wouldn’t mind.
You should be able to set the student up with a username and password in the organization’s account under members and then use that to log in to bookshare. This enables the student to read on the website as well as get books that are assigned to them.
Hi @jrprokes! The PDF and Word versions should be attached here. The braille is showing great on the document, but not the Monarch. Also, when scrolling across the image, the braille doesn’t seem to load correctly, which is what is throwing me (see original posting).
Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.

Hi Amy! Your graphic looks awesome. Try copying and pasting all of the information in your Word file into the attached template, and then saving again as a PDF and reopening on the Monarch. I don’t know why it should make a difference, but using the template with the wider margins appears to matter.
Just a note - before you paste into the template, hit the spacebar one time. For some reason, if you paste at the top left corner of the document you lose all of the template formatting and it turns into the normal default. But if you space one time it retains it. Then you can delete the space if you want.
Resaving in the template may also resolve the problem with the braille loading correctly when you pan, but if not, it may be a case of needing to lift your fingers from the display momentarily when hitting the pan keys so that the braille can refresh. It gets stuck otherwise.
Also, you can just use 29-point font throughout - no need to make any braille size adjustments. If you’re using 29-point and getting some kind of corruption in the Monarch display, it will be a different problem.
Hi @jrprokes looks like it did not work…I’m attaching two pics I took of the braille on the Monarch (sorry, the lighting and pic contrast was the best I could do) and I am including the Word and PDF versions from the tactile graphic template you sent. If it looked technically correct on your end (file, braille, etc) it must be something on the device end of things. I’m curious if anyone else has created graphics and what their experience is? In the Word document that you attached to your last message, press CRTL A to select everything and change the font in the entire document to Braille 29 with 29 point font. Then go through each of your labels and do the same thing, even if it looks like it is already that font. Before I did this, your file on my Monarch display looked like the pictures that you posted, and after, it looks correct. Let me know what happens for you.
This PDF file is opening properly on my Monarch, and I am also attaching the Word file that it came from. Hopefully this will open correctly for you.
It is possible that the macros are interfering with your creation. This is what I did to check my settings:
File Menu
Click on Options (or click on More, then Options)
Click on Trust Center
Click on Trust Center Settings
Click on Macro Settings
My setting says “Disable all macros with notification”
Then I’d recommend shutting down your computer and restarting, then taking a brand-new template file, copying/pasting your graphic curve and lines into it, then re-adding all of the text and labels as if starting from scratch.
With luck, this will resolve all of your issues.
By the way - sometimes Tactile View gets stuck on an image, even if it’s on a USB drive that has been removed. You might press your app switcher square button, arrow to Tactile View, and press Backspace + Dots 2-3-5-6 to turn off the app, and then start new from your USB drive in the File Manager.
It was a good idea to experiment with resizing the graphic, even though it didn’t work in this case - sometimes that affects how the Monarch reads it.
I am wondering how to place a bookmark in a book that was downloaded from Bookshare and is now in “My Books” int Victor Reader. I discovered ‘backspace L’ but a message “select all” shows up. I try to put in ‘backspace M’ that is a shortcut in Tactile Viewer but that doesn’t appear to do anything. ??
TIA!
I am also confused as to where and how exactly I am supposed to post questions. I can’t consistently find the Flight Deck. Is the FD the same as the Discussion Board? Can you share the steps for searching for a related topic and then also the steps for posting a new question? I think I do it differently every time I post. Thanks.
We have three videos that may help. The Create a New Topic covers how to search before making a new Topic. The Flight Deck is one topic in the discussion board.
Those videos were something the Hive did for a conference presentation, they are not monarch specific. The Hive will be releasing training videos and a course in the Fall when the device launches. We are working hard to prepare that material.

My bookmark question was about putting a bookmark in a book on the Monarch. I feel like I’m not posting my questions in the appropriate place because sometimes I get a quick response (maybe from Greg T) and other times I don’t hear anything for days. I want to make sure I am contacting the people that can actually help with my Monarch issues. Ideas?
Sorry! I missed that. I sent your question on to the product team and someone should get back to you soon. You are just fine with your posting, it sometimes takes staff a bit longer to respond. I watch over the post and try to make sure none go too long without responses. As we all have discovered there are many posts to keep up with!
At the moment book marks do not work. It is not you! The Find works better in the new update and the navigation levels. Hopefully the next update will have book marks.
Good to know, thanks. I’ve just downloaded two books and one only shows an “image”, even when I go to the Table of Contents, and the other one won’t open at all. They were both completely downloaded from Bookshare. When I open a previously downloaded book, the page formatting is weird. It doesn’t show up in paragraph form, or even complete lines. Sometimes there is even just one word on a line. The display shows the same thing as the monitor. Any ideas? I know showing actual formatting of print books was one thing the creators were excited about. Thanks!
What are the settings in your book share account? Do you have it set to daisy only? That is what was working. It looks like BookShare has made some changes recently. Try a few different things and let us know what you find!
I am trying to download another book to make sure it’s in Daisy (I think I did the previous ones as ePUB), but now I can’t get out of braille view on my monitor. I have tried “Enter V” but the braille doesn’t turn to print on my monitor. And what’s weird is I can see a faint print copy of the screen UNDER the braille on my monitor. To change from braille to print/print to braille isn’t it “Enter V”? Thanks
