I am having my students read books in KeyWord and we are using an external monitor. However, only the title shows on the monitor when the student is reading the braille, thus the monitor is not helpful to follow along visually with the story. If the student reads line by line with the audio (dot 4 + space) the print will show on the screen.
Is there a way to have the full page of print show on the monitor and have it change to the next page of print when the student presses page down?
HI Nancy!
One fairly good option for improved visual interface with the monitor is to press Enter + V to go into the Print Preview - then you can see the entire page and it will advance as the student advances. I like the speech better there too - the student can read a paragraph at a time by using the down key in the plus pad.
The downside is not being able to edit there, but it is easy enough to go back and forth between the main window and the print preview if needed.
Thanks for the quick response!
Hello. I had not had the Monarch on this summer during our break. I updated the device a couple days ago and the speech was not working. I did the shortcut keys enter+backspace+S and I still don’t have any speech. Is there something else I need to do?
Hi Carol!
Thank you for letting us know about this. I recommend trying a factory reset:
-
Press Enter + Q for Quick Settings
-
Press Enter on System
-
Press Enter on Reset Options (last item in the list)
-
Press Enter on Erase All Data
-
Continue to choose “erase all data” until the Monarch shuts down
-
Restart
-
Go to the Quick Settings menu again and re-connect to your wi-fi network
-
Open All Applications and press Enter on KeyUpdater
-
Check to see if any updates need to be re-installed - most likely it will not be necessary
A factory reset will require you to set up the Monarch with all of your preferences again, but with some recently updated devices where I have encountered the same problem, this has resolved it. If it doesn’t, you may need a new device.

Jenny,
I did everything you told me to do. I still don’t have any speech and sometimes the device freezes on me. I have students coming next week. What is my next step?
Thanks.
Carol
