Course Description: How can we prepare students to confidently navigate tactile graphics? This course equips educators with the skills to bridge braille literacy and graphicacy. By exploring effective instructional techniques, you will learn to set meaningful goals, support student progress, and gain practical tools to build students’ confidence in accessing visual information through touch.

ACVREP credit hours: 1.5

Objectives:

  • Define tactile graphicacy and describe how it relates to braille literacy.
  • Describe a variety of instructional strategies pertinent to effective tactile graphics reading and tactual perceptive skills.
  • Explain the key elements of graphics learning and their role in developing tactile graphics literacy.
  • Identify resources that can be used to evaluate students’ tactile perceptual capability and determine areas for targeted instruction.

Just finished the Teaching Graphically Skills course and it was amazing. Great information and ideas for anyone working with BLV students. This is worth sharing with IEP teams as well as classroom staff. The resources provided are an asset to any TVI/TSVI toolbox. This is such an important topic and this course provides ideas and information we all need to support our students of all ages and abilities.
