The Mission of the Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DSBVI) is to assist individuals in achieving their highest level of independence, participation in society and employment consistent with individual interests, values, preferences and abilities. The Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR) / DSBVI is seeking a skilled and motivated Employment Readiness Specialist/TAS Instructor to work in Salt Lake City, UT.
Principal Duties
Employment readiness:
- Works with students one on one to help develop job readiness skills such as resume writing and interview skills.
- Networks with employers.
- Provides assistance and/or on-the-job training.
- Documents progress of students in the employment process as well as those in classes substituted.
Oversee the college track program:
- Assists students through the application process for our college track program.
- Tutors students when needed: Assists with students in reading, writing, and math.
Teaching: job readiness, low vision tech, and TAS substitute:
- Works with students one-on-one in a classroom setting to help develop job readiness skills such as resume writing and interview skills.
- Teaches low vision tech such as Zoom Text and magnification apps on phones and tablets.
- Substitutes other Training and Adjustment classes as needed. Some of these classes include home management and computers.
- Cross-trains with other staff to ensure quality services and substitutions are provided among staff when necessary.
- Prepares monthly student progress reports and evaluations.
- Willing to attend blindness related trainings and conventions.
- Coordinates and participates in monthly training center activities for students.
- Organizes, leads, and/or participates in group discussions to promote self-confidence, self-reliance, and positive attitudes about blindness.
- Attends staff meetings and client staffing as scheduled.
Preference
Preference may be given for the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and/or work experience. Fields for a degree include, but are not limited to: vocational rehabilitation, vocational evaluation, psychology, sociology, social work, and Teacher of the Visually Impaired. *A degree is not required for this position.
- Knowledge of techniques used in teaching the blind or visually impaired.
